Amit Harlalka Elevated to CEO Position at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel

Harlalka began his career as a Financial Accountant at Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2002. After three years, he joined ArcelorMittal as Finance Manager in Bosnia. Since then, he has remained associated with the ArcelorMittal group.

The ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) has promoted its CFO Amit Harlalka to CEO position. He will take charge a day after the incumbent CEO Dilip Oomen, 68, retires on June 30.

Aditya Mittal, Chairman of AM/NS India and Chief Executive, ArcelorMittal, said, "As a trusted and long-serving senior executive, most recently as CFO at AM/NS India, Harlalka has proved himself more than ready to step into the CEO role.  He has strong knowledge of the operations and has been intimately involved in the growth plans not only for steel, but also renewables.  I also know that Harlalka highly values safety, an imperative always and even more crucial with so much expansion and construction underway.  In his capable hands I am confident AM/NS India will have a very bright future."

He started his career as Financial Accountant at Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2002. After three years, he joined ArcelorMittal in the year as Finance Manager, Bosnia. Since then, he has kept his association with ArcelorMittal.

He also worked with ArcelorMittal Mexico for 4 years and then ArcelorMittal International before joining ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel in 2019 as Deputy CFO. In 2003, he was elevated to CFO position.

Harlalka began his career as a Financial Accountant at Hindustan Unilever Limited in 2002. After three years, he joined ArcelorMittal as Finance Manager in Bosnia. Since then, he has remained associated with the ArcelorMittal group.

He later worked with ArcelorMittal Mexico for four years, followed by a stint at ArcelorMittal International, before joining ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel in 2019 as Deputy CFO. In 2023, he was elevated to the position of CFO.

Harlalka said: “It is a privilege to be trusted to be the next CEO of AM/NS India.  The potential of the company is enormous, and I will be focusing on ensuring we can meet all this potential, starting with our aspiration to be accident free.  We have a great team of people who are excited and motivated by the unique opportunity they have to help build Atmanirbhar Bharat. Harlalka is a chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and holds an MBA in finance from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.  He has also been appointed a Member of the ArcelorMittal Group Management Committee.
